Garden City Head Coach Tom Flatley gains 200th victory with 35-14 win over New Hyde Park
Story:
Garden City head coach Tom Flatley won his 200th game on Saturday October 18th with a 35-14 win over the New Hyde Park Gladiators. NHP opened the scoring with a 5 yard touchdown run by Macsood Khalilullah, followed by the successful extra point by Daniel Catapano. The first half ended with Garden City trailing 7-0 but that was quickly changed on the Trojans first two possessions of the second half. GC quarterback Matt Montgomery connected on an 11 yard touchdown pass to Denis Rice to tie the score at 7 on the first possession of the second half. On their next possession, GC's Stephen Jahelka ran for a 53-yard touchdown (one of his two touchdowns) to give Garden City a 14-7 lead. Jahelka ran for 205 yards on 18 carries. Brian Fischer, who had 66 yards on six carries added a touchdown for the Trojans. NHP scored again on a 30 yard pass from Vincent Festa to his brother Anthony, giving the Gladiators their final TD of the day. Mike Wood, back after missing a few games due to injury, ran one in for another Trojans' touchdown. GC's kicker, Connor Dwyer was perfect on every extra point attempt. After this win, Flatley's record stands at 200-34-7 in 24 years at Garden City. He joins Howie Vogts (Bethpage), Don Snyder of (Farmingdale), Fred Smith (Locust Valley) as coaches with 200 victories. Garden City, 5-1 will face Elmont next week. New Hyde Park, 3-3 will host Great Neck South in their next game.........
