Patric Berkery's Goal in Double OT gives Garden City Trojans 3-2 victory over South Side Cyclones in Boys Lacrosse

From the first face off to the last goal, fans were treated to an excitingly close boys lacrosse game that featured exceptional play by the defense of each team as the South Side Cyclones played host to the Garden City Trojans at Skelos Field on Tuesday afternoon. The Trojans were coming off an exciting last minute victory over Smithtown West and the Cyclones, a much better team than their record shows, were hoping to show that they could win against a formidable opponent. GC's Brian Coleman put the Trojans on the board first with 7:25 left in the first quarter. Five minutes later South Side's Gavin Ahern tied it up. With the score still tied entering the second half, both goalies (Alex Castronovo for GC and Dominic Moriarty for South Side) were put to the test. South Side's Bryan Gerrato broke the tie with 4:21 left in the third quarter to put the Cyclones up 2-1. It wasn't until the middle of the 4th quarter that the Trojans answered back with a goal by Patric Berkery. By the end of regulation the score was still tied and the game was heading into overtime. The first OT period proved dramatic with drives to both ends of the field but Castronovo and Moriarty, along with their defenses, forced a second OT. As it appeared that the game would end in a tie, GC regained possession and called a time out with 10 seconds left. Play resumed and with two seconds left Patric Berkery, once again, hit the back of the net giving the Trojans the 3-2 win......
