In the second round of the high school baseball Class A playoffs the Garden City Trojans played host to the Valley Stream North Spartans on Monday afternoon May 17th. VSN pitcher Greg Gonzalez retired Garden City in order in the first three innings but the Trojans took a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning after Frank Cordio led off the inning with a single and was driven home after a double by Joe Tursi. Mike Borges extended the Trojans lead to 2-0 with a fifth inning solo home run. The sixth inning proved to be the turning point of the game. The Spartans' Dan Lucatuarto walked and DH Mike Dern followed with a hit-and-run single putting runners on first and third with no outs. Kyle Sicarella hit a single to left and cut the Trojans' lead to 2-1. Tino Muscatelli walked to load the bases and Ryan Garcia hit a fly ball to center fielder Mike Giannone.
