Garden City Trojans win Nassau Class B Girls Lacrosse Title with 20-13 win over Wantagh Warriors

The Garden City girls lacrosse team has, pretty much, sailed it's way through the regular season ending with an undefeated record of 17-0. One of the few formidable opponents that the Trojans faced was the Wantagh Warriors on May 11th. In that game, Wantagh's defense gave the Trojans offense a run for the money and their offense did the same to the GC defense. In the end, GC came out on top with a 15-11 victory. Now, here we are, three weeks later, and both teams meet again. This time a Nassau County Class B title is at stake. These teams have played in every Class B title game since it came into existence, with Garden City winning each one. GC led 5-0 and 7-2, but Wantagh held them scoreless for 10:30 after the Trojans went up 8-4. By halftime the Warriors put it into high gear and trailed 9-7. After the start of the second half GC held a 10-7 lead but after two straight Wantagh goals, the lead was reduced to one. Alex Bruno scored her fourth goal of the game off a free position to put the Trojans back up by two at 21:30. Within two minutes Wantagh's Paula Schmidt hit the back of the net to make the score 11-10. After a ping pong match of scoring for each team, GC pulled away and went up 17-11 with less than 10 minutes to play. In the end the Trojans came out on top with a 20-13 victory and the Nassau title. GC will head to the Long Island Championship at Dowling College this Sunday to play the winner of No. 1 Rocky Point and No. 3 Hauppauge. Garden City's Alex Bruno led all scoring with five goals. Goalkeeper Kelly Weis made 10 saves.
