Garden City Defeats South Side 55-32 in Girls Varsity Basketball

In a rematch of last year's Nassau County Class A girls basketball semi-final, Garden City's girl's basketball team played host to the South Side Cyclones on Tuesday evening, January 17th in a Conference A regular season game. The Trojans used a pressing defense and speed to combat South Side's height advantage. Seniors Katie Trimmer and Christina Mangels were key in shutting South Side down as the Trojans jumped out to a 33-20 halftime lead. Trimmer would lead the scoring with 17 points, 10 rebounds and 4 steals as the Trojans went on to win 55-32. Freshman Sam Auricchio had 15 points including two 3-pointers. Kim Ryan scored three 3-pointers and totaled 11 points and 5 steals. The victory advances GC's overall record to 9-2 and their conference record to 3-1. Also scoring for GC: Christina Mangels; 6 points 12 rebounds and 7 steals, Taylor Carpentier; 2 points and 9 rebounds, Mary Valitutto-Gaudiosi; 3 points and Tara DeAngelo; 1 point.
