Garden City's girls basketball team extended its overall record to 10-2 as the Trojans defeated the New Hyde Park Gladiators on Friday evening January 20 at Garden City High School. The Trojans took a commanding 12-3 lead in the first quarter. The second quarter was equally as impressive for GC as the team held a 32-11 lead at halftime. New Hyde Park had a strong third quarter, outscoring the Trojans 15-14, but the 4th quarter belonged to GC as the Trojans went on to win 59-30. Garden City Senior Kim Ryan, and freshman Sam Auricchio, led the scoring with 15 points each. Nine of Ryan's points came off of 3-pointers. Katie Trimmer was next with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Christina Mangels had 15 rebounds, 6 points and 4 assists. GC's 4-1 conference record puts the team in second place behind the Wantagh Warriors. The New Hyde Park Gladiators 2011-2012 girls varsity basketball team includes: Kristen Korzevinski, Laila Chadli, Shelby Platia, Victoria LoFaro, Melissa Mastoridis, Janelle Gibbs, Paula Quijada, Victoria Romano, Brianna Patrizi, Christine John, and Jessica Vadala. This season's Garden City Trojans girl's varsity basketball team is coached by Charlie Sparacia and includes: Sam Auricchio, Kim Ryan, Liz Stutzmann, Kelsey Tierney, Mary Valitutto-Gaudiosi, Jess Stein, Nicole Bommarito, Katie Trimmer, Tara D'Angelo, Taylor Carpentier, and Christina Mangels.
