Saying goodbye to summer and hello to fall

What better way to usher in the beginning of fall than a trip to the east end of Long Island? We ended up on the North Fork in Cutchogue and Mattituck, amongst the farms that offer apple picking, peach picking, and the most delicious home made pies ever! Baskets upon baskets of brightly colored mums lined the parking lots and, of course, the pumpkin stands with their orange, yellow and even white pumpkins were filling up. We had to stop when we saw a field of sunflowers that were just begging to have their photo taken. Thousands and thousands of them with their dark brown centers and bright yellow petals. It seemed as though there were honey bees on every single flower, but they were too busy to even notice us. Even an old pink GMC pickup truck, that was sitting in some overgrown weeds, seemed to fit right in. Although there was only the slightest hint of the leaves on the trees beginning their glorious transformation into the reds, yellows and oranges that we associate with autumn, this was the perfect way to say goodbye to summer and hello to the beauty and splendor of fall.
