Garden City High School Graduation on Saturday morning June 23rd at Warren King Field. After a heat wave, and powerful thunderstorms that dominated the prior days, the skies cleared and the temperatures dropped to a comfortable level just in time for the 76th annual commencement at Garden City High School. After the academic processional HS Principal Nanine Cuttitta opened the ceremony, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance by Student Council President Molly Timmins. The senior Chorale performed the National Anthem and were followed by Salutatorian Megan Bader's welcome speech. Franklin Dickinson, the President of the Class of 2012 presented the class gift and then was announced as the Julia Maloney Scholarship winner. Dr Robert Fiersen, the Superintendent of GC schools spoke to the graduates and their friends and family before Harvard bound Valedictorian Alina Ranjbaran made her speech. Keynote speaker Dr Michael Stratis, a social studies teacher at GCHS, was introduced by Timothy Coogan, the Secretary of the Class of 2012. By then it was time for the introduction of the graduation candidates by Franklin Dickinson and Jessica Stein (Vice President of the class of 2012. Board of Education members Colleen Foley, Barbara Trapasso, Laura Hastings, Angela Heinemann and Tom Pinou awarded diplomas to each senior.
